Tom Winston
For the past 25 years Tom has excelled at gaining rapport with customers and clients. This innate ability to establish Trust enabled him to introduce and inspire adoption of innovative technology, processes, and products.
He understands that inspiring commitment begins with establishing trust. While listening to the customer/client is mission critical, you must initially reach a mutual landscape of Honesty, Truth, and Respect.
In 1983 he was promoted to Manager of Information Systems for Network Services Division at Bell Atlantic. Collaborating with 5ESS telecommunication system administrators, he successfully integrated Unix-based servers with intelligent workstations (personal computers). Local area networks were immature and not proven in the Office Automation arena. Tom successfully configured and implemented 3,000 desktop (giving associates the ability to electronically share information).
Tom then joined Fannie Mae in 1989 to develop data applications over a telecommunication network called ISDN (integrated services digital network). Once again using leading edge technology he successfully configured a network typology which threatened the need for traditional data communications infrastructure. Both pleased and alarmed with Tom’s accomplishment Senior Management re-assigned him to design the network for Desktop Underwriter (an artificially intelligent risk analysis system).
In 1993, Tom was re-deployed to Fannie Mae’s Southeastern Region in Atlanta, Ga. He was tasked with gaining mortgage industry adoption of Fannie Mae’s automated underwriting system - Desktop Underwriter. Fannie Mae sellers were sceptical, suspicious, and reluctant to implement an agency sponsored underwriting engine. Leveraging his ability to quickly establish trust, Tom addressed and disarmed customer apprehension. He achieved adoption of an innovative technology. He demonstrated, through empirical evidence, how the technology lowered costs and enhanced the borrower experience. Today, Desktop Underwriter is the premier automated risk analysis system in the mortgage industry.
